Con-way Inc. today announced that 2008 full-year earnings from continuing operations are expected to be between $2.60 and $2.80 per diluted share. Previously, Con-way expected 2008 full-year diluted earnings per share from continuing operations to be between $3.00 and $3.40.

The revised full-year earnings guidance is based on an assumed number of diluted shares outstanding of 48.2 million and an expected tax rate of 39.4%.

Commenting on the updated earnings guidance, Douglas W. Stotlar, president and chief executive officer of Con-way Inc. said, The economy has been battered by an unprecedented confluence of macroeconomic crises, curtailing demand for freight transportation services. Over the past several weeks we have seen volumes decline further, exacerbated by September's weather events, all of which continue to pressure yields. To date, the traditional peak seasonal uptick in demand has been muted so we expect the challenging business environment to continue through the 2008 fourth quarter.

Stotlar added that from an operations perspective, productivity and service performance measurements remain at high levels. Our people continue to deliver an extraordinary effort and be recognized for a superior service product, he noted. We have excellent franchises in freight and logistics, and the foundation is in place for sustainable long-term growth.

Con-way Inc. plans to release financial results for the 2008 third quarter, ended September 30, on Wednesday, October 22 after the close of the stock market. Con-way will host a conference call for the investment community the following morning, Thursday, October 23 at 11 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time (8 a.m. PDT). More Employees to Give Back to Local Communities

UPS employees across Canada are rolling up their brown sleeves to do a lot more than deliver packages in October.  Throughout the month, UPS employees will participate in the company's Global Volunteer Month, giving their time, talents and hands-on support to charitable organizations in their local communities.

Since 2003, UPS has designated a week in October as Global Volunteer Week. This year, the week has been extended to a full month to enable more employees to participate. These volunteer efforts extend beyond Canada, with UPS employees participating in the U.S., Latin America, Europe and Asia. Since the program began, the number of employee volunteers has grown from 1,000 in 2003, to more than 30,000 expected to participate worldwide this year.

"UPS employees are encouraged to volunteer throughout the year, but during Global Volunteer Month there is a concentrated effort to engage as many volunteers as possible," says UPS Canada President Mike Tierney. "If you can get a person to come out just once and volunteer, they will experience first-hand the power of giving back; then you've helped create a volunteer for life.

"UPS employees choose their own volunteer projects to support in addition to those set up by designated UPS team leaders, who coordinate volunteer opportunities for employees to attend. These activities include a variety of projects from handing out food to the homeless and at food banks, to landscaping for daycare centres and schools, to reading with children.

"This year we are emphasizing environmental efforts," Tierney explains. "We are encouraging employees to participate in projects such as litter prevention, waste reduction, recycling and landscape beautification. The most effective environmental project also will be recognized with a $10,000 grant.

PORTLAND, OR -- Con-way Multimodal, the nationwide truckload brokerage division of Menlo Worldwide Logistics, today announced the launch of an enhanced Quick Pay program aimed at meeting the administrative and financial needs of its carrier community. The new Quick Pay program provides carriers multiple payment options and schedules. Menlo Worldwide Logistics is an operating company of Con-way Inc.

"In difficult economic times, it's more important than ever to offer carriers flexible compensation options that will help them manage their cash flow and administrative needs most effectively," said Tyler Ellison, president of Con-way Multimodal. "Our new, improved Quick Pay program gives them that flexibility -- with a rate structure that's extremely competitive."

Under Con-way Multimodal's new Quick Pay program, carriers can opt to receive payments through direct deposit, paper check or electronic funds transfer. Immediate pay is available for a three percent processing fee, and seven-day pay for a two percent fee. There is no charge for the standard 30-day pay schedule.

To participate in the program, carriers must complete and submit a registration form indicating their payment preference. Payments will be processed upon load delivery and receipt of required paperwork.
